Today’s guest blogger is Susan Richardson, she is a poet and a writer that also happens to be blind. Her blog is called: Stories From the Edge of Blindness. Without further ado, let’s get right into the interview!
- Please briefly introduce yourself.
First, I want to thank Xin Sun for this incredible opportunity to be a part of her interview series. It is a huge honor!
My name is Susan Richardson. I am a poet and writer living in the belly of Hollywood. I also have Retinitis Pigmentosa, am legally blind and write a blog called Stories from the Edge of Blindness. - What are your hobbies and interests?

I didn’t know you have pugs. I love pugs.
December 17, 2018 at 3:29 pm
I knew there was a reason I liked you!!! May actually!!! The pugs are my babies!!! I always wanted one and we found a great pug rescue here…now we have 2 girls (6 and 4 years old)!
December 17, 2018 at 3:36 pm
I had a pug when I was a kid so I have a soft spot for them.

Murder mystery? Now you’re talking.
When I come to see you, we first go hiking and screaming, then we eat, drink wine, read poetry, talk to your pugs and watch fox crime under those blankets of yours.
It sounds like fun to me.
(Loved the interview).

‘I suppose I am easily overwhelmed by the smaller things, because the bigger things take up so much space.’ I so relate to this!! And murder mysteries and true crime were all I read for years and years. I took every Criminology class my college offered, lol. Thank you, Susan. It’s lovely getting to know you!
December 18, 2018 at 8:15 am
Thank you, my friend!! xoxo You did criminology courses? So interesting. I would love to know more!!!!
December 18, 2018 at 9:35 am
My pleasure! And I’d be happy to share, although it’s been 24 years since those classes. Haha!
December 18, 2018 at 2:24 am
I so enjoyed reading more about you, Susan! And we have a common fear.
December 18, 2018 at 8:13 am
We do? I would love to know more! Thank you, my friend!!!

The fear of violence. It’s not my biggest, but it’s there.
It was really a sweet interview!
December 19, 2018 at 6:19 am
For me as well. I have been terrified of it since I was a small child. I think the only physical fear that may scare me more, is burning, but violence seems so much closer, more possible.
I was really happy to be asked to do the interview. It is rare that someone from the blind community asks me to be a part of this kind of thing, so I was thrilled to participate. Although I am not active in the blind community, I really admire what people like Xin Sun are doing.

Wonderful interview. Congrats!

Thank you, so much!!!!
December 19, 2018 at 3:12 pm
You’re very welcome!
And I can relate to the education thing…except I only did a couple of months and things changed, life happened and I never went back. Except for a few years ago I did a theology diploma. But life does exist without degrees 😉
December 20, 2018 at 5:52 am
I allowed my lack of degree to be a barrier for so many years, thinking I couldn’t possibly be a writer without one; and although I still often feel as if my writing is all guess work, I think it would be that way no matter what. Our life paths are all different and that is part of what makes things interesting!!!!
December 20, 2018 at 3:38 pm
I can so relate! I understand the guess work thing completely, but I also came to realise, that I enjoy not having a particular influence. Well, at least not a particularly conscious one. No doubt, plenty of sub conscious ones.
I’m so glad you started writing, your writing is amazing!
December 21, 2018 at 6:28 am
Thank you! The feeling is mutual!!!!!
December 23, 2018 at 3:47 am
I’m honoured, thank you!
December 21, 2018 at 12:08 pm
Susan, you are legally blind yet doing so much in terms of your writing? I think this is magnificent!!!
Only the best to you in all your endeavours…
Great interview…
Marts…
