So I was perusing the most current issue of Visual Verse this morning and came across this brilliant piece written by my friend Basilike Papa, the author of the blog Silent Hour. Her writing always inspires me. She weaves words in a way that is so uniquely and beautifully hers; it is like magic.
I am super excited! I have a WEBSITE, an actual website with pictures and everything! I feel like a real grown up writer, and the best part of it is that my husband, Joe, imagined, designed and created it. He is a genius who has made me look much more impressive than I could ever be.
Joe has made websites for writers, chefs, doctors and safety professionals. He has true range and talent. He will be officially opening his business this summer, so if you need an amazing website, or know anyone who does, he is your guy!!!!
Although I am not part of the “industry”, I do live in Hollywood and inevitably, I have some friends who are actors, writers (of the film and tv variety), and film makers. And, some of them are crazy talented. Susan – Kate Heany is one of those crazy talented friends. She is hysterical, quirky, brilliant and lovely and she has created a web series that you have to check out!!!! She also has a must listen to podcast called The Quirks!
Joe and I have lived in our apartment together for almost 10 years (he lived here 4 years before I moved in) and periodically, we rearrange the furniture. We love it. It makes the apartment feel brand new. It may seem like a stretch, but when I was thinking about my writing the other day, and how much I have been floundering, I drew a parallel in my mind to rearranging the furniture. When Joe and I start feeling a bit stuck in our apartment, we move things around and clean inside corners that have been long ignored, and we both feel refreshed. Our most recent rearrange was to move Joe’s desk into our second bedroom, creating an office for him, which means our formerly shared space (what is meant to be a dining area) has become mine. We were both excited for the change, but (here is where the writing connection comes in) it also ended up shining a light on how much I haven’t been writing. I debated writing an end of year post. I have been in what feels like an endless sinking, felt myself fading so rapidly as the days drag forward, bringing me closer to 50 and what I imagined would be an overwhelming disappointment in who I have become. But, then I stepped back, allowed myself to refocus, to see beyond the sadness that I write about so frequently, and breathe in the joy of my life, which I probably don’t write about often enough. I love Thursdays. Every Thursday, Ink in Thirds hosts a wonderful opportunity to create poetry with their Three Line Thursdays. It is a beautifully creative and inspiring space frequented by writers I have come to admire and adore! This Thursday is especially great because it marks the release of the newest issue of Ink in Thirds, including one of my poems. It is made even more special because the poem is one of my Three Line Thursday contributions.
You can find the current issue here.
I am thrilled and honored to be a part of the current issue of Ink in Thirds!!! My huge thanks to editor and curator, Grace Black.
Barren Magazine has exploded onto the literary scene with a creative force that is unstoppable. In just three issues, they have published some of the best contemporary poetry, fiction and non fiction, I have ever read, by some of my very favorite writers. It is an absolute honor for me that, editor Jason Ramsey, chose one of my poems to sit alongside so much beautiful writing.
It is made even more meaningful by the fact that he chose a poem inspired by my friend, Bojana, an immensely talented poet and writer. This is for you, Gorgeous Lady!
I am a few days late, but I just submitted my Visual Verse poem for October, and I urge everyone to give it a try. Even if you don’t submit, it is a fun exercise, and this months image is super cool! 1 hour, 50 to 500 words…..go for it!!!
Also, don’t forget about the monthly Rattle Ekphrastic challenge.
