I was tagged a few days ago to participate in the black and white photo challenge by Grace, the creator of MS Graceful…NOT If you aren’t familiar with Grace, go and check out her blog, and meet a woman who is strong as hell, funny, kind, talented and can swear with the best of them. I am honored that she is my friend!
You know there are always rules to everything in life! The rules for this are straightforward. Seven days. Seven black and white photos of your life. No people. No explanation. Challenge someone new each day (Participate if you feel compelled to do so).

Lovely garden! I can feel it’s hot weather and how cool the shadow must be with all these plants around.

As with everything, there is a story…..I live in a very small building and one of my neighbors has been in the building for over 35 years; this photo is actually of the front walkway into our building and the plants are all his! He has made it so beautiful, taken away the starkness, and definitely given needed shade!

You are lucky to have a neighbor who loves plants! He definitely gave the place some beauty.

We are so lucky he is here!!!! L.A is not always a place where you know your neighbors, but our building, thankfully is.

I understand. I’ve lived in Athens for 15 or more years and you don’t know your neighbors there either. I too was lucky to live in a small apartment block where people knew each other. A neighbor helped me install a new cooker, and if I ever needed anything I could just ring anyone’s doorbell and ask for it. I was the younger in the building and people felt protective towards me.

I love it. I know that this is not the intent, but the way that half is in shadows and half in light is almost metaphysical. There’s a poem in there for you, Susan.

I was actually thinking about doing my own Ekphrastic challenge with these photos – do you want to join me?

I think you should…but no promises being able to participate.

So many textures! It’s beautiful in black and white, I can only imagine what it would be like in color

Thank you, Lovely!!!!!

It is beautiful in person; kind of jungle like, but the photos look better in black and white for sure.

Ιn Athens, where concrete is king, the only thing that can make the ugly seventies-eighties buildings look better is flowers. Are there any fragrant ones in there?
July 17, 2018 at 12:08 pm
I have never been to Athens..not until now, anyway. Most of the plants are actually green; maybe one or two that flower. I miss having flowers around me.

I love flowers too. In Athens I had a tiny balcony, but I did my best to keep it green and colorful. I was lucky there was also a pomegranate tree right in front of it.
Here in Trikala, especially in my neighborhood, most houses have a garden. You won’t believe the fragrance in spring!

It sounds exquisite!!!! I thought you were still in Athens, but now I know I am getting to see a place I had honestly never heard of . And through your eyes! It is exciting! It is so important to have beautiful things to take in and appreciate!

Me and my husband moved in 2013, after we lost our jobs in the debt crisis. Trikala is his hometown, and we thought to move here because life is cheaper and we could live for free in a house owned by his family. Life is good here, but we miss our friends in Athens.

How far from Athens are you now? My husband is from a small town in Ireland and I am constantly telling him that we must move there when the time comes for us to leave Los Angeles. The older I get, the more quiet I crave.

Four and a half hours by train, can’t remember how many kilometers.
Ireland should be an excellent choice. Never been there either, but from what I’ve seen in pictures the land is beautiful.
